12 Hawks Veterans Day Specials: Thank You to Grant County Vets
Veterans and active duty military eat free on Veterans Day, November 11. Show a military ID, DD-214, or VA card and get one entree up to $16 off the menu, no purchase required. This runs all day, from breakfast through dinner, while the kitchen is open.
Here's what that actually covers and what it doesn't. The free entree applies to one item per veteran, dine-in only. It does not include alcohol, appetizers, or dessert, and it can't stack with other discounts. If you bring family, they order and pay regular menu prices, but kids eat at the regular kids' menu rates, which keeps this affordable for a group. Check the full menu before you come so you know what counts and what's worth ordering with it.
What if Veterans Day lands on a Tuesday
We're closed Tuesdays, no exceptions, even for holidays. If November 11 falls on our closed day, we move the veteran special to the nearest open day before or after, usually Monday or Wednesday. We post the exact date on our Facebook page and at the host stand a week out. If you want the reasoning behind the Tuesday closure, we explain it in our post on why we're closed Tuesdays.
Combine it with happy hour
If you come between 2pm and 4pm, Monday through Friday, you also get happy hour pricing on drinks and appetizers. That's $2 off craft cocktails and half-price on select apps. The veteran entree discount and happy hour pricing run on separate parts of the ticket, so you can use both without any conflict. We break down the full happy hour lineup, including which cocktails are worth it, in this post on happy hour.
Game day and family seating
Veterans Day often lands during football season, and every screen in the building runs the games, college and NFL both. We don't do assigned seating for games, so if you want a good view during a big matchup, come early, especially on a Sunday. Tables seat up to six comfortably, and we can push two tables together for larger groups with a heads up ahead of time. Kids are welcome at any table, any time, including during games.
If you're bringing a group of vets together, a VFW chapter, or a family reunion around the holiday, call ahead. We can hold a block of tables for groups of eight or more, and for 15 or more we'll work out a simplified group menu so the kitchen can keep up without long waits.
What to order
For the free entree, the burgers and sandwiches are the best value since most land right around that $16 mark. The chicken fried steak and the fish and chips also qualify and come with a side, so you're not paying extra to round out the plate. If you want something lighter, the salads qualify too, though they run cheaper, so you won't use the full discount value there.
Breakfast is served all morning if you'd rather come early and avoid the lunch rush. The specials run the same way at breakfast, so veterans can use the same ID verification for an early plate.
A few honest limits
This isn't a blank check. The $16 cap means premium steaks and the larger combo platters will cost extra out of pocket. We also can't verify ID over the phone, so to-go orders don't qualify, only dine-in. And because we're a smaller kitchen, if it gets slammed, expect a longer wait than a normal Monday. We'd rather be upfront about that than have you show up expecting instant service on what's usually our busiest day of the month.
We started this because a good chunk of our regulars, and a good chunk of our own staff, have served or have family who did. It's a small thing against what a lot of people gave up, but it's something we can do every year without fail. You can read more about who we are and why this place runs the way it does on our About Us page.
12 Hawks is at 140 Division Ave W in Ephrata. We're open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day except Tuesday, with happy hour Monday through Friday from 2 to 4pm. Come hungry on Veterans Day, bring your ID, and bring the family. We'll have the game on no matter who's playing.
